Kyle Asman Advocates for Greater Resilience Among Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders

Orlando, Florida entrepreneur and venture capital founder Kyle Asman is encouraging aspiring founders and business professionals to embrace resilience, continuous learning, and goal-setting as essential skills for long-term success.

Kyle Asman, founder of Backswing Ventures, is raising awareness about the importance of resilience in entrepreneurship and business leadership, drawing from his own experiences navigating challenges while building a venture capital firm and launching multiple investment funds.

Asman believes that resilience is often overlooked despite being one of the most important factors behind long-term business success.

“Resiliency and thick skin,” Asman says. “Those are two of the most important traits a person can develop if they want to build something meaningful.”

His comments come at a time when entrepreneurs continue to face significant challenges. According to startup industry data, approximately 90% of startups ultimately fail, while nearly half do not survive beyond five years. Researchers have also found that founders with lower resilience levels are more than twice as likely to consider quitting compared to those with higher resilience scores.

For Asman, these realities reinforce the need for a mindset focused on learning and persistence rather than short-term setbacks.

“There is always going to be challenges, but you learn and grow from them,” he says. “The never quit mentality is important.”

Asman launched Backswing Ventures in 2020 after a career in banking gave him exposure to capital markets, investors, and deal flow. Since then, he has experienced both successes and obstacles while building the business.

“I have faced a pandemic and overcome major challenges during my first fund,” Asman says. “Every experience teaches you something.”

He believes many people underestimate how much growth comes from difficult periods rather than easy ones.

“I enjoy every single day, the good and the bad,” Asman says. “I have learned how important that is in long-term success.”

Another area Asman is encouraging people to focus on is intentional goal-setting. Rather than relying solely on long-term plans, he advocates creating shorter time horizons that allow for regular evaluation and adjustment.

“I set goals on a quarterly basis,” he says. “I define success as reaching or achieving the goals you set.”

Research continues to show that goal-setting can improve performance, motivation, and accountability across both business and personal development environments. For entrepreneurs especially, clear goals can provide structure during periods of uncertainty and rapid change.

Asman also stresses the importance of maintaining a learning mindset. In venture capital, every decision carries lessons, whether an opportunity succeeds or fails.

“We learn daily from every investment we do or don’t make,” he says.

He believes this principle extends beyond investing and applies to careers, businesses, and personal growth.

“People sometimes think success comes from always being right,” Asman says. “In reality, you learn from every experience.”

Asman hopes more aspiring entrepreneurs will focus less on avoiding failure and more on building the resilience needed to keep moving forward.

“I love to prove people wrong when they say things can’t be done,” he says. “A lot of great ideas only become reality because someone decided not to quit.”

A Call to Action

Kyle Asman encourages aspiring entrepreneurs, business professionals, and students to take practical steps toward building resilience in their own lives by setting measurable goals, viewing setbacks as learning opportunities, seeking feedback, and committing to continuous personal and professional growth.

“Success doesn’t happen overnight,” Asman says. “It’s built through consistency, learning, and continuing to move forward when things get difficult.”
